Mission statement:
To prevent relationship violence BEFORE it starts.
Megan's Foundation is a grantmaking nonprofit and a catalyst for change. They provide grants to high schools, colleges, and nonprofits for education on healthy relationships, to empower young adults to recognize unhealthy behaviors and stop relationship violence BEFORE it starts. They are a tax-exempt charitable nonprofit. They do not teach content or provide programs. They distribute funds to schools and organizations who will provide age-appropriate, healthy relationship programming for the students they serve.
Turning Point - Domestic Violence/ Sexual Assault Services
Mission Statement:
The mission of Turning Point is to provide comprehensive quality services to primary and secondary victims of domestic violence and sexual assult and empower them to improve their lives.
Turning Point is the second-oldest domestic violence shelter in the state of Alabama and one of the oldest such agencies in the United States. In its beginnings, Turning Point partnered with Druid City Hospital (now a part of the DCH network), reserving a hospital room to provide a single Tuscaloosa County family one night of respite from an abusive environment. In over 40 years of continuing operation, Turning Point now has a nine-county coverage area, serving Tuscaloosa, Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Marengo, Pickens and Sumter County in West Alabama. Tens of thousands of men, women, and children have received services from Turning Point. Turning Point provides direct services to over 2,000 primary and secondary victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition, Turning Point conducts community trainings, speaking engagements, and other events throughout the year.
